Out of Control suggests a discomfort at the sight of disturbing creatures, challenging the comfort zone and the perception of aesthetics ingrained in us.
As a starting point, Toren made up a story playing with the idea that AI software had begun to use the knowledge it acquired for the purpose of conducting laboratory experiments for its own pleasure. AI soon realized that humans are not interested in defective DNA, so it took that DNA for its own raw material. This myth by Toren, led her to create a series of hybrid images made of glass; all kinds of weird hybrid animals, inspired by medieval illuminated manuscripts, ouroboros eating their own tails, consuming themselves with their mouths. They are reminiscent of laboratory test tubes, all bowing their elongated necks, looking down as if apologizing for their misuse of DNA. An extravagantly long tail takes one back to the origin, where it all started from.
